About the Program
BUI Primary program delivers the IIS Primary Ta’lim Curriculum for Kindergarten to Grade 6 students to:
  • To advance the children’s knowledge and understanding of the fundamental principles of Islam
  • To help them acquire a historical and cultural perspective of Islam and of the Ismaili Tariqah
  • To inspire in them loyalty and devotion to the Imam of the time 
  • To develop their understanding of themselves as Ismaili Muslims within the unity of Islam
  • To encourage them to practice the faith as a necessary and integral part of their lives
  • To guide them in the formation of attitudes and conduct in keeping with Islamic Ethics
  • To foster in them the spirit of voluntary service to community, society & humanity
About the Role
Key Responsibilities
  • Ensure the effective delivery of religious education to the students by providing guidance, support and mentorship to the teachers of the centre.
  • To report to the centre’s designated Primary Education Lead (PEL) and the centre Principal to ensure the teachers receive meaningful support to facilitate students understanding and articulation of the faith.  
  • Provide administrative support to the teachers and in collaboration with the Leadership Team assist to recruit teachers.
  • Build professional relationships of trust and provide pastoral care to all teachers, including substitute teachers.
  • Assist and provide support to teachers in connecting and building relationships with their students and colleagues.
  • Provide continuous support to teachers and mutually continue to deepen the understanding of the curriculum.
  • Facilitate forums of opportunities to share best practices and benchmark successes.
  • Offer support when required to assist teachers and substitute teachers with weekly lesson planning (e.g. activity supplies).
  • Model lessons for teachers as part of the ongoing mentorship.
  • Provide constructive feedback to teachers for continuous development.
  • Assist with overall classroom management.
  • Conduct needs assessment for each classroom to ensure alignment between requirements and support provided.
  • Review, understand and provide support on all communication to teachers (e.g. grade-wise emails).
  • Commit to developing own self and sharing new knowledge gained.
  • Work closely with the PEL to provide updates, participate in development sessions and conference calls when required.
  • Participate and assist in the facilitation of Professional Development Sessions for teachers.
  • Attend meetings and collaborate with all members of the center’s Leadership Team.
  • Communication with all teachers and centre Leadership Team on upcoming events and other pertinent information.
  • Participates in the developing of new ideas and methods for program enhancement

About You
Qualifications / Assets:
• Diploma in Early Childhood Education or Teaching Certificate
• Excellent interpersonal skills with parents, leadership team and community members.
• Mature and responsible attitude towards work
• Ability to work cooperatively as a member of the BUI team, facilitating a team environment through personal behaviour, work contributions and the sharing of expertise and knowledge

• Friendly disposition and excellent interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work independently and in a team.
• Confidence leading and delivering program to BUI
• Motivation to make a significant difference to the lives of young people.
• Strong communication skills
• Criminal Record Check required
• Fluent in English
• Completion of BUI at Secondary level

Nice to have skills:
• Other institutional voluntary experience
• Experience working with K-6 children
• Previous teaching, counselling, or coaching experience
Time Commitment
  • 5 hours/week
  • 20 January 2020 to 19 December 2020
