About the Program
About the program: The first ever Ismaili e-Chess Cup, part of the eSports segment of Global Encounters and under the umbrella of the Jubilee Games, will be held this spring. This is an opportunity to provide a platform not only for our youth, but the entire global Jamat to connect digitally, build relationships through competition, collaboration, and engagement, showcase elite athletes in our Jamat, learn to navigate the digital world and celebrate the rising excellence of eSports.
Through Tornello; online chess platform, players will connect virtually to play chess from any geographic location using the internet. Individuals age 5+ will participate via multiple platforms. To ensure maximum participation, eSport coaches from around the world will help participants develop their skills. Participation of nonparticipants will also be maximized through social media activities, spirit videos, e-sports education, active living and wellness sessions, talent showcases and several other spectator engagement initiatives.
About the Role
The Arbiter will be responsible for:
- Supporting setup on Tornelo.com
- Assisting players in connecting on Tornelo.com
- Following and executing on chess tournament protocol
- Assisting with explaining different game/match timelines
- Making equitable schedules for all sports with any number of slot allocations for both preliminary round games and playoffs
- Having the ability to buffer in contingency plans when scheduling
- Having a thorough understanding of FIDE Chess Rules and Regulations
Arbiter Certification opportunities are available for individuals interested with no prior experience.
About You
An Arbiter having prior experience in sports/event scheduling within the community or outside the community will be an asset.

- Proficient in use of the Internet and computer literate
- Experienced in online chess platforms. Experience with Tornelo.com is an asset
- Quick to adapt to programs including Zoom, Slack and MS Office software

- Must be able to compile schedule planning and analysis.
Communication
- Bilingualism is an asset
- Interact easily with people from diverse cultures
- Possess strong written and oral communication skill
- Effectively manage and motivate
- Ability to work both independently and as a team player
- Open to suggestive and constructive comments

- Adapt to changing schedule due to unaccounted circumstances
