About the Program
Positive Youth Development (PYD) is an intentional, pro-social approach that engages youth within their communities, schools, organizations, peer groups, and families in a manner that is productive and constructive; recognizes, utilizes, and enhances youths’ strengths; and promotes positive outcomes for young people by providing opportunities, fostering positive relationships, and furnishing the support needed to build on their leadership strengths (Federal Interagency Working Group on Youth Programs).

With respect to the Canadian Ismaili Jamat, the purpose of PYD is to:
  1. Educate our Jamat on the tools required to raise happy, health and resilient youth;
  2. Empower Jamati members to foster relationships with youth; and,
  3. Evaluate youth development within Institutional programming and initiatives, developing insights. and calls to action.
About the Role
Role and responsibilities include:
  • Attend National PYD meetings and organize National PYD initiatives.
  • Provide PYD presentations on the 40 Asset Model to the Prairies Boards and Portfolios, as well as bodies such as the YCF.
  • Engage each Board and Portfolio in evaluating current programming by filling out an asset inventory to note their strengths, weaknesses, and target assets.
  • Serve as a consultant to Boards and Portfolios about purposefully incorporating positive youth development and the 40 Asset Model into programming.
  • Work with other AKYSB Prairies Members to enhance current programming, for example:
    • Developing resiliency and wellness focused activities/curriculum for Camps.
    • Educating parents at events that target children or already bring together parents (e.g., youth sports).
    • Identifying opportunities to foster asset development.
About You
We're looking for individuals aged 18+ with experience in positive youth development (teacher, mentor, youth leader). Training will be provided.
Time Commitment
  • 2 hours/week
  • 13 April 2021 to 11 July 2021
